Aboriginal Education Strategy
Helping Aboriginal students achieve their full potential
Every child in Ontario deserves a positive experience in school. To help our First Nation, Métis and Inuit students succeed they need to feel welcomed and engaged. They need to see themselves and their cultures reflected in the curriculum and the school community.
Our new Aboriginal Education Strategy is a positive step forward. A key part of this strategy is the First Nation, Métis and Inuit Education Policy Framework. It includes plans to:
- Improve reading, writing and math skills
- Increase the number of Aboriginal school staff
- Include more Aboriginal histories and cultures in the curriculum
- Encourage more parents to get involved in their children's education
- Increase knowledge and awareness of Aboriginal histories and perspectives among all Ontario students.
