Tutoring and Learning

More one-on-one support for students

We all understand that students often need extra time and support to work on their reading, writing and math skills. Tutoring is a very effective way to help students learn the skills they need to be successful.

Since 2005-06, we have provided more than $11 million for tutoring programs across the province. Here are some examples:

Nearly 1,800 college and university students have been trained and hired to tutor young students in 54 school boards across Ontario.

This means children get the extra help they need while the tutors gain valuable practical experience and act as role models to the students. Teachers then have more time to provide individual instruction to every student in the class.

School boards are working creatively with community partners to provide tutoring before school, after school or during lunch hour.

Our children benefit from local recreation programs that provide tutoring or homework help as part of after school and weekend activities.
