Mentoring for Newly Appointed System Leaders

The mentoring for newly appointed Directors of Education and Supervisory Officers pilot was expanded as a field test in 2008-2009 is being implemented province-wide in 2009-10. System leaders who are in their first and second years in the role are eligible to receive mentoring supports.

The field test provided an opportunity for the ministry and partners to learn more about how mentoring helps meet the unique professional learning needs of newly appointed system leaders and their role for leading the system to improve student achievement and wellbeing. It is underpinned by the Leadership Framework

The ministry has provided funding to director and supervisory officer associations to implement the field test in partnership with school boards and to reflect the requirements set out in the Mentoring for Newly Appointed Directors of Education and Supervisory Officers Field Test Guide (Word, 545 KB).

Parker Management Consulting (PMC) Inc. has evaluated the field test and gave the Ministry a final report in April 2009.
