Premier's Awards for Teaching Excellence

Educators and support staff in your school board are making a difference in students' lives every day. Their hard work and commitment to student achievement deserves to be recognized.

That's why the ministry created the Premier's Awards for Teaching Excellence – to highlight outstanding educators and support staff in Ontario's publicly funded schools and school boards each and every year.

Since the awards began in 2006, 82 educators and support staff from across the province have been recognized for their accomplishments. They have amazing stories to tell, and they go back to their communities energized and motivated to continue their great work with students.

If someone within your school board is a past recipient, now is a great time to profile his or her achievements. Visit the ministry's website and select “recipients” to access videos, photos and award information from the past four years.

The deadline for nominations is January 31. That means only two weeks are left to nominate worthy educators or support staff.

Premier's Safe Schools Awards

Last month, the minister announced the creation of The Premier's Safe Schools Awards to recognize safe schools teams across the province who have done exceptional and innovative work in fostering a safe and inclusive school environment.

This new award will recognize up to 10 teams that have worked to improve the school climate.

Anyone in the school community can nominate a safe schools team for an award, but a safe schools team can also nominate itself.

The nomination deadline is March 31, 2011, and award recipients will be announced during Education Week in May.
