Dear Director of Education,

The Ministry of Education is now planning the RMS Spring Symposium. This will provide board and school teams with an opportunity to:

  • reflect on the implementation and monitoring of the first year of the Renewed Mathematics Strategy (RMS);
  • learn from the experiences of others across the province; and
  • explore processes and structures in preparation for the 2017-2018 school year.

Director's Action Requested:
Please consider the suggested audience members below, and share with them the following information, password, and registration link.

Suggested Audience:

  • Superintendents and System Leads (eg., School Effectiveness Lead, Student Success Lead, Special Education Lead, Early Years Lead, Indigenous Education Lead, Equity Lead, …)
  • Principals (K-12) and educators from schools receiving Intensive Support
  • School and System Math Leads/Facilitators/Coaches/Coordinators
  • ...and any other educators at the Director’s discretion.
(Please note: MISA Leaders will receive a separate invitation and registration link from the Education Statistics and Analysis Branch to attend two full days, either May 16/17 or May 17/18.)

The RMS Spring Symposium is offered on two sets of dates:

Group 1: May 16 (8:00 am – 3:30 pm) and May 17 (7:30 am – 11:30 am)

Group 2: May 17 (12:30 am – 4:00 pm) and May 18 (8:00 am – 3:00 pm)

Toronto Congress Centre, 650 Dixon Road, Toronto. 

Expenses are covered by the board from the RMS transfer payment and other board funding at the Director's discretion. Participants should consult their board’s policies regarding travel and accommodation.

Symposium Details:
The RMS Spring Symposium is focused on the overarching questions, “How is your team implementing and monitoring the Renewed Mathematics Strategy? What can we learn from each other?” 

Keynote Speakers:

  • Dr. Christine Suurtamm, Associate Professor of Mathematics, University of Ottawa
  • Deputy Minister Bruce Rodrigues, Ministry of Education
Provincial Sharing and Learning:
The symposium will also include opportunities for like-role discussions and breakout sessions to engage participants in provincial sharing and learning. As a part of the discussions in each breakout, participants will be encouraged to share ideas and key learning related to the implementation and monitoring of RMS key objectives and the integration of Ontario’s renewed goals for publicly funded education.

Registration Process:
Attendance is voluntary, optional and at the discretion of the Director of Education. The Director is asked to share the following password with board staff who are invited to register.

  • Select “Spring Symposium” from the top menu
  • Select “Register for RMS Spring Symposium”
  • Enter the password to begin the registration process
  • Each participant must be registered individually
