Subject: 2017-18 Online Taking Stock Reporting Tool

The 2017-18 Taking Stock Reporting Tool will be launched on November 10th, 2017. Similar to the 2016-17 school year, the Taking Stock Reporting Tool will continue to be accessed through the online GoSecure platform.

Based on the feedback we received last year, we have attached materials to support your use of the tool:

  • Two Excel documents to assist District School Boards (DSB) to gather data from multiple schools. The Excel documents include:
    • a school-level template for completion by schools; and,
    • a program to aggregate all school files into one master Excel file (please follow the embedded directions to use the program once all school-level templates are received at the DSB).
  • Technical instructions outlining key details on how to use the tool.
  • A frequently asked questions document regarding the tool.

The November 2017 collection is unchanged from the November 2016 collection, with the following exceptions:

  • School-level data can now be collected and aggregated using ministry Excel templates, which can then be uploaded into the Taking Stock Tool.
  • In the Indigenous Engagement Initiative Grade 12/12+ section:
    • The collection of credit attempts has been separated into two categories – Grade 12 and Grade 12+
    • The collection of self-identified students who returned Semester 1 and were enrolled as of October 31 is now separated into two categories – Grade 12 and 12+.
  • A school report and a summary board report will now be automatically created in the Taking Stock Tool.

Submission Periods

As in previous years, there are three submission periods for collecting Taking Stock data in 2017-18:

  1. November 10-30, 2017 (data as of October 31, 2017)
  2. April 10-30, 2018 (data as of March 31, 2018)
  3. July 16, 2018 (data as of June 30, 2018)

Existing Users:

For users who accessed Taking Stock in 2016-17, you may access the tool using your existing account login and password, on or after November 10th, 2017, using the following link: Taking Stock Reporting Tool.

For New Users – Upcoming Professional Learning and Supports

To access Taking Stock, new users are required to follow the steps below:

  1. If do not have a GO Secure account, please create a new GO Secure account by clicking this link. If you already have a GO Secure account with the ministry, proceed to step 2.
  2. Gain access to the tool and sign-up for an Adobe Connect training sessions by registering here. Dates and times for training are listed below.

    October 10, 10:00-11:00 a.m.
    October 13, 10:00-11:00 a.m.
    October 20, 10:00-11:00 a.m.

Existing users who wish to take refresher training on the tool are also invited to attend the training sessions.
