Resources for Teachers

The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) allows students to begin training for a career in the skilled trades. They must be entering Grade 11 and at least 16 years old.

Students can earn cooperative education credits by participating. They may also be able to register as apprentices and begin logging their apprenticeship hours. Work experiences may be available in a wide range of trades in the automotive, construction, manufacturing and service industries.

For example, a student who enjoys gardening could choose an OYAP opportunity leading to a career in horticulture.
